    Stratford 29&30 AUGUST 2009

Coventry Junior Motocross Club’s bank holiday race took place on the Saturday and Sunday at their home track of Stratford. Despite a small drizzle on the Sunday, the rain held off just long enough to keep the track in excellent condition for two fantastic days of racing. Trophies went to those who completed both days of racing.

Saturday:

Starting off day one of racing were the open class riders and Luke Blanchard had a flyer of a first race, denying Seb Osbourne of the race win. Also riding superbly was Richard McDermott who fought his way through to third. Race two and Seb picked up his pace, putting his race one demons behind him to win the race. Mark Boswell also found something extra in race two to come second, with Luke in third. Seb settled quickly into a rhythm to dominate the third race, with Mark in second. Jake Grossman had his best race of the day to come in third.

There was close competition in the Seniors as all four of the top riders battled for the lead. The competition was between Jansen Day, David Sweet, Scott Bates and Dan Thornhill. Race one saw Jansen take the lead from beginning to end and David in second, with Scott close behind in third. Race two had Dan taking the race win, with again David and Scott battling for second, which eventually went to David. Jansen again got the start he needed to win race three and Scott finally got the better of David for second, leaving David settling for third.

Third group out were the Amx and Seb continued his winning streak throughout all three races. However it didn’t come easy as Darren Banwell and Ricky Lethaby were close behind. For the first race Ricky got the better of Darren for second. In races two and three it was Darren who got the better of Ricky.

Big wheels out next and Jack Gardner was unstoppable as he took all three race wins. Chasing him down was Jack Timms, who came second in each race. In race one Jack Weaver came in third, however bike problems put him out of the rest of the weekends racing. It was then left down to Matt Harrison and Jay Thomas battling for third. In race Matt got the third place, however Jay got the better of him for third in race three.

Race one for the small wheels and Greg Evans had a brilliant race to take the win, Rob Hollyoake came in second with Liam Taylor third. Rob had a much better race two to take the win, followed in by Liam. Third place this time was Danny Lanfaer who rode really well. Rob again took the race win in race three, even with Greg in second determined to achieve his race one finish. Ollie Benton rode amazingly in race three for a third place finish.

Mitch Warhurst was yet another rider who had a dream day to take all three race wins. Jamie Cox wasn’t far behind in second for the first race and putting a lot of pressure on Mitch, however he was unfortunately unable to continue and we hope he’ll be back next time. After a third in race one, Harry Linton would have been over the moon to get second in races two and three, which he most defiantly should be. JC Verdugo had an excellent second race to come third and Chris Mills had his best race of the day to come third in race three.

Finally out were the autos and Callum Green still remains in a league of his own as he led the way in all three races. James Bates took second in race one ahead of Ethan Cooper. Ethan picked up the pace a bit to take second in races two and three. In race two it was James who took third and Kieran Ryan had a fantastic third race to come third.

Sunday:

Day two of racing and the racing order stayed the same. Seb Osbourne was away with the fairies as he yet again dominated the days racing, assuring him the overall win. Paul Burn did his best to make it difficult for Seb in second place in race one, whilst fending off a charging Richard McDermott. Richard got the better in race to get second, as did Mitchell Bates who showed his skills in the damp conditions to come third. Paul got it together again in race three to come second and Ed Reynolds seemed to come out of nowhere to come in third.

The top four riders were still the same in the Seniors and all were still pushing for the win. It was Jansen who got it though as he has a much more consistent day to take all three race wins. Behind him David Sweet managed to fend off Scott for second in races one and two, but it was Dan who he had to fend off for second in race three.

Ricky Lethaby definitely had his race head on in the Amx and rode so well to break Seb’s winning streak in race one, leaving Seb to take second. However Seb just got the edge over Ricky in races two and three, but Ricky was practically glued to his back wheel the whole time. Darrell Simms had to fight off Grahame Lamb for third place in the first and second races, but Grahame wouldn’t give up and rode came in a well deserved third place in race three.

Alex Meadows joined in the big wheel race on the Sunday and straight away stormed into the lead for all three race wins. Jack Gardner wouldn’t be put down and had three strong races in second place. In races one and two Jay Thomas rode really well in third, as did Matt Harrison in race three.

In the Small Wheels the battle for the lead was so close between Greg Evans and Rob Holyoake. Greg just got the edge in race one for the win, however Rob put his foot down and took the win in races two and three ahead of Greg. Ollie Benton had yet another super race for third in race one, but Danny Vieira just got the better of him in races two and three.

Harry Linton must have had some sort of energy boost in the morning as he stopped Mitch’s perfect weekend as he won the first Junior race, ahead of Mitch. Mitch fought back in race two to take the win ahead of Harry, but that didn’t stop Harry biting back in race three for another win, with Mitch in third. Harry Wichman was another late joiner who also rode consistently well in third place.

Yet again Callum Green was in a world of his own at the front of the Auto class. Ethan Cooper also continued his pursuit of Callum and rode brilliantly in second in all three races. Kyle Jones, another late comer, rode very well and managed to get third in all three races.

A special award went to Mason Glover, whose riding has improved so much over the past couple of weeks and we hope to see him scoring even higher soon enough. Another rider who rode the best he’s ever rode was Nathan Buckland, so congratulations to him too.

A huge thank you to Benton transport, KP Equip and Two Seasons Retail for all of their support over the weekend, it is really appreciated so much.

  BSMA Semi-Final

This year the BSMA Semi-Final was hosted by Coventry Junior Motocross Club and held at their home track of Stratford. Lots of time and effort went into preparing the track and the changes were fantastic. The pressure was now on for a top ten finish to qualify for the Finals.

The Open Class started the day and there was no doubt in anyone’s mind as to who was going to win. Even with a bad start in the first race and having to work his way up, Seb Osbourne stormed round the track with an immense lead in all three race, giving him top spot for qualifying. The battle for second and third was a lot more unpredictable between three of the riders; Tom Bennett, Lee Bullock and Charlie Heatley. Lee Bullock was well on pace in race one to pick up second place, with Tom fighting to keep up in second. However Tom soon figured out the track and spent the last two races on top form in second place. This left Lee and Charlie fighting for third. Lee just had the edge over Charlie in race two for third place, but Charlie refused to settle for fourth and all his effort paid off in race three as he forced his way into third. Unfortunately for Charlie it ended up with Lee taking the overall third, behind Tom in second.

Next out were the AMX riders and Ricky Lethaby proved to be too much for the rest of the group to handle. Just as Seb Osbourne did in the Open Class, Ricky dominated the AMX group in all three races to guarantee himself a place in the Finals. Charles Davies had a fantastic first race to grab second place off Scott Hambridge, who finished third. After an unfortunate first race, Adam Mayo had a lot of work to do if he wanted to qualify. With second place in both races it seemed set that he would make top ten. Paul Willis also picked up the pace after race one to snatch third place in races two and three to put himself on equal point for second place with Charles Davies. However with a second place in race one, the overall second went to Charles.

The Seniors also had a dominating rider in their midst in the form of Shaun Springer. Shaun became the first East Kent rider to top the results with three race wins. In the first race he was followed home by fellow rider Piers Skinner, leaving Matt Ogden in third. Charles Statt then got the better of both of them in race two to make second his highest position of the day. Scott Bates improved each race and broke through to top three in race two for a third position, then went on to come in second in race three. Piers Skinner was back on form to come in third in race three. With so many position changes, there were only a handful of points between second and fifth. Piers Skinner scraped an extra two point over Scott Bates for second and third respectively.

The Big Wheel 85s were the group out without a lone leader. Instead three riders battled it out at the front. Jordan Divall, Lewis Dowsett and Jack Eldridge shared the top spot with a race win each. In race one Jordan managed to pull a slight advantage over the other two for his race win. Lewis had a tough race as Jack pushed him right till the end and never letting him pull even the slightest gap. However Jack just couldn’t seem to find a way past and ended the race in third place. After a bad first race Jack Weaver seemed to come out of nowhere to join in the battle at the front. In race two Jack Eldridge gained that boost of energy he desperately wanted to stop Jordan repeating his race one victory. This left Jordan in second place, trying hard to keep his advantage over the ever advancing Jack Weaver in third. Of course Lewis wasn’t going to let the others get the better of him a third time and pushed extra hard in race three to take the win he’d been looking for all day. Jordan again had to hold off Jack Weaver to come in second and take the overall win. With Lewis and Jack Eldridge ending on joint points for second, a count back awarded the position to Lewis after his second place in race one.

The Small Wheel 85s also had close competition at the front of the group. In race one Mitchell Lewis got the upper-hand to take the race win, with Daniel Packman right behind him in second. With his best race of the day Conner Dennis rode brilliantly to come third. In races two and three Jack Wilson seemed have finally found the lines on the track that best suited him and picked up the race pace. This gave him the win in both races. Mitchell Lewis was still up there though and finished second in race two and third in race three to take the overall win. Ben Beadle had a fantastic race two for third place, making himself the third East Anglia rider to break into the top three. Daniel Packman also found his rhythm again in race three to get himself second. This gave him third overall, behind Jack Wilson in second.

The final group in each block of racing were the Juniors, and Callum Heasman soon followed in the footsteps of the likes of Seb Osbourne, Ricky Lethaby and Shaun Springer with and enormous lead over the rest of the group. This meant he was the undeniable winner of each race and first overall to qualify. Tommie Schofield rode as hard as he could to keep up, but has to settle for second place in races one and two. However an unfortunate third race left him qualifying a little further down than he’d probably hoped. After third place in races one and two, Thomas Brown finally got second position in race three to grant himself second overall. After a tough day of riding, Mitchell Warhurst rode superbly in race three to get third and also come third overall.

Coventry hosted an excellent meeting and their efforts shouldn’t go unnoticed. A big thank you should also go out to Colin and Julie Hambridge, Les Beckett, Keith and Chris Collins, Alan Hambridge and Mick Sparrow who all stayed behind and helped to clear everything away at the end of the day.

Also all the best to Jamie Scott, Stuart Sparrow and the third injured rider (sorry but I’m not sure as to which rider it was!) for a speedy recovery.

  Longbrooke 17th May

Despite mixed weather conditions including heavy downpours, Coventry Junior Motocross club went ahead with the days racing at Longbrook. However the day almost ended up as a last man standing event.

Out first were the Open, along with the AMX. All didn’t go Seb Osborne’s way this week as Lee Bullock rode fantastic in the conditions to win the first two races ahead of Seb. However Seb pulled it together for the final race to take the race win, with Lee in second. Overall it was Lee in first place, followed by Seb in second. Consistency was the order of the day for third place as even though three different people came third throughout the day, none of them got the position overall. For the first race it was Mitchell Bates who came third, in the second race it was Cain Roberts and in the third race James Allsop got third. But with two fourths and a fifth, Thomas Hambridge earned himself the third overall.

Out with the Open were the AMX and Ricky Lethaby proved to be good no matter what the conditions are by flying to victory with three race wins and an overall first place. Charles Davies also showed his skills in the wet with second place in races one and three and a second overall. Scott Hambridge and Dean Brown ended the day and joint point for third, but the position was granted to Scott, with second in race two and third in race three. Although Dean’s second race was well ridden as he came in third.

Next out were the 85s and the big wheel and small wheel bikes were together. Jack Gardner was way out front in all three races to win overall in the big wheel’s, but the battle was on for second place between Ryan Farrell and Thomas Kennedy. Thomas managed to get the position with a second in race one, third in race two and second in race three. Ryan did put up a good fight though as he got a third in race one, second in race two and third in race three.

Ollie Benton had a fantastic day in the small wheel group, and with straight wins achieved a well deserved first overall. Danny Vieira had a great first race in second, followed by Jack Sarll in third. Nick Grey had a good second race to get second and Jack again came in third. In the third race Jack finally got the second place he’d been after all day, with Danny Vieira coming in behind him. Overall Jack got the second place and Danny got third.

The Juniors were out next and it was joint points for the overall win. With two wins in the first two races and a third in the final race, Mitch Warhurst took the overall win. His competition was in the form of Ben Kind, who came second in the first two races and finally managed to win the final race ahead Chris Mills, who came third in race two. Third place in race one went to JC Verdugo. Ben Kind gained the overall second on count-back with Chris in third.

The autos had the hardest work to do just to get their bikes round the track. Callum Green was untouchable as he bought his bike home each race in first position for an overall win. Kieran Ryan worked hard for an overall second after second place in the second two races, however Harry Smith got the better of him in race two. Tyrone Brown and Mason Glover both finished on joint points after Tyrone’s third in race two and Mason’s third in race three. However on count-back the overall third place went to Tyrone.

Last but not least were the Seniors and Scott Bates was yet again in a league of his own at the head of the pack. Jamie Scott got the overall second with third place in races one and two and second in race three. Second in race one and a consistent day allowed Jordy Hughes third overall. Nathan Buckland’s unfortunate first race put him out of the top three, however picked up the pace in races two and three with a second and third respectively.

The club did well to run the days racing with such unpredictable weather and the marshals managed to brave the wind and rain to help the day go ahead. Let’s just hope for better weather at Stratford!

STRATFORD 5TH APRIL

Round three of the Coventry Junior Motocross Club championship was held at Stratford and despite the track being graded and watered it was packed hard. The turnout was fantastic, so due to having just under 200 riders all seven groups were run separately.

Taking the overall win in the auto race was Callum Green, with Luke Woodhouse close behind him. Both riders rode extremely well and continually scored 1st and 2nd respectively throughout each race. With 3rd place in the first and second race, Ryan Manley seemed set to get 3rd overall. However after an unfortunate third race, the overall 3rd went to Ethan Cooper who picked up a 3rd in the final race.

In the Junior group Mitchell Warhurst had to work hard for the win due to Jamie Cox being hot on his tail. With Mitchell getting 1st in race one and 2nd in race two and vice versa for Jamie it all came down to the final race. Mitchell took the final win with Jamie coming in a very comfortable 2nd. Owen Woodhouse came in 3rd overall after getting 3rd in both races two and three, however Nathan Bache had a great first race where he came in 3rd.

The small wheel 85 races were a lot more indecisive, however with a 1st in races one and three and 2nd in race two the clear winner was Alistair Evans. With a 3rd in race two and 2nd in race three it was Jordan Saunders who gained the overall second. Both Greg Evans and John Hunt ended the day with joint points in competition for 3rd. In the end the position went to Greg Evans as he was 2nd in race one and 1st in race two, although John had a very good final race where he was 3rd.

Henry Gilbert’s day couldn’t get any better as he dominated the big wheel 85 race. In the first race he was followed home by Jack Gardner, with Grant Smith not far behind. Again it was Jack Gardner who came 2nd in race two, however this time it was Karl Haycock in 3rd. Jordan Wills flew in race three to pick up 2nd, with Grant getting himself another 3rd place. The overall 2nd place went to Jack, although Grant and Jordan were both only 1 point behind. With 2nd in race three the place went to Jordan.

With 1st place in races one and two Scott Bates was clearly set for the win and secured this with 2nd in race three. In the third race it was Kristopher Ayrs who won, and with a 2nd in race two Kristopher rode well to get himself 2nd overall. Charles Statt had a great day with 3rd in the first two races for 3rd overall. Matt Ogden and Luke Smith also had days with 2nd in race one and 3rd in race three respectively.

There was close competition in the Amx race between Ricky Letherby, Dan Jagielski, Richard McDermott and Daryl Simms. Ricky’s consistency gained him an advantage as he was 1st in race one and 2nd in races two and three, therefore 1st overall. Dan’s wins in races two and three meant that he achieved 2nd overall. Richard came 3rd overall with 3rd in races one and two, however just missed out in race three to Darryl, who had also came 2nd in race one.

Seb Osbourne was untouchable in the Open Class with an immense lead in all three races. Behind him Lee Bullock and James Williamson battled it out to the end for 2nd and 3rd. Lee’s two 2nd places and one 3rd against James’ two 3rd places and one 2nd meant that Lee came 2nd overall and James 3rd.

A huge thank you to all the marshals who came to help out for the day, you all did a fantastic job. Also best wishes to Josh Sleet, Max Pinney and Robert Morris, hope to see you back soon. Thank you to CJMX for yet another great weekend and looking forward to the next one.

Fat Cats March 8th 2009

Coventry’s second club championship round and BSMA qualifier was held on the 8th of March at Fat Cats with very indecisive weather. After a short delay at the start, due to an accident on the motorway holding up the paramedics, practice began with 4 laps of practice for each group. Autos and Juniors out first, followed by Small Wheel and Big Wheel85s together, then the Seniors and finally the Amx and Open.

All of the top 3 riders in each race for the Auto’s and Juniors together were from the Junior group and it was clear to see William Keogh’s intention for the day after a perfect score, winning each race. After straight wins at Longbrook last week, Mitchell Warhurst, number 63, had a lot of work to do and got himself a 2nd in race 1 and 3rd in race 3 for a 2nd overall. Thomas Brown, number 111, had an excellent 3rd in race 1 and a 2nd in race 2 for 3rd overall, although Keenan Armstrong, number 28, was on the ball with a 3rd in race 2 and 2nd in race 3. Unfortunately for Keenan he didn’t have quite enough points overall to beat Thomas. It was also a close race between the autos as Reece Martin, number 199, had 2 wins in races 1 and 2, but Ethan Cooper got the better of him in race 3 after 2nd in the first 2 races. Aaron Patstone also rode a good 3 races with 3rd in each.

For the 85 classes the races were again dominated by a Big Wheel, except this week it was in the form of Henry Gilbert, number 78. Henry achieved a 1st in race 1 and 2nd in race 2. Race 2 was won by Conal Glover, number 15, who was 3rd in race 1 and 2nd overall. Jack Weaver, number 60, came 3rd overall after a 2nd in race 1. However Jack Seabourne, number 27, proved that the bigger wheel size is not always better after a successful 3rd place in a race 2.

Charles Statt, number 45 in the Seniors, was completely untouchable as he stormed into the lead from the word go and won both of the senior races. Try as he might Scott Bates, number 11, just couldn’t catch him and held off a very determined Matt Ogden, number 60, for 2nd place. Matt himself came in 3rd in each race and overall.

Out last were the Open and Amx classes. Josh Spinks, number 18 in Open, proved himself to be top after winning both races with a fantastic lead. Lee Bullock, number 78 also in Open, showed the spectators that his straight wins at Longbrook were just the beginning as he came in 2nd for this day of racing. Charles Davis, number 3 in the Amx, rounded up the top 3 after also having a brilliant day.

Unfortunately the Autos and Juniors were the only group to have all three races. Mere minutes into the Small Wheel and Big Wheel 85 3rd race the weather became horrendous and the visibility was becoming so poor, especially for the marshals, that the rest of the days racing had to be cancelled based on the safety of the riders. It would have been unfair to have left them out in such a horrible condition.

 LONGBROOKE MARCH 1ST 2009

The weather couldn’t have been better for Coventry’s first race of the year, which was held at the new tack of Longbrook. 5 laps of practice for each group started of what was to be a good day of racing.

The Auto group were first out in each block and each race was proudly dominated by number 49, Callum Green, who had an excellent days racing. Ethan Cooper, number 4, also had a day to remember, coming in second consistently. Rounding up the top three in each race was number 12, Kieran Ryan, who is new to the sport.

Next out were the Juniors. Mitchell Warhurst, number 41, flew into the lead where no-body could touch him, although bike problems nearly kept him out of the final race. Second and third place were much more indecisive. Ben Kind, number 30, took 2nd in race one and a third in race 3. In race 2 number 9, Thomas Simpson, took 2nd place. After a 3rd in races 1 and 2, Daniel Van der Hoeven, number 17, flew of the start-line to get the hole-shot and a 2nd place for race 3, only just holding off Ben. This 2nd gave Daniel an excellent 2nd overall and Ben got himself a well deserved 3rd.

Out together were the small wheel 85s and the big wheel 85s. Straight wins for big wheel rider Jack Weaver, number 60, didn’t come without a fight. If he didn’t have the threat of small wheel winner Jack Wilson, number 114, then he had big wheel second place winner Michael White, number 25, on his back wheel. In the first 2 races Jack Wilson came in second but was beaten to 2nd place in race 3 by Michael White, who was 3rd in races 1 and 2.

Even though Scott Bates, number 11, won by miles in races 1 and 3 in Seniors, a snapped chain in race 2 unfortunately stopped him taking the overall win. However Jake Lord gladly took the overall win after a 2nd, 1st and 3rd respectively. With 2nd place both races 2 and 3, Matt Ogden, number 60, finished in 2nd overall. Kurt Shorter, number 2, had 2 solid 3rd places in races 1 and 2 for an overall 3rd place.

Out last together were the Amx and Open riders. Open Class rider Lee Bullock, number 78, took no prisoners in order to conquer the races for an overall win. However hard he tried, Chuck Davis, number 3 in the Amx, couldn’t catch up with Lee, however Chuck had competition of his own. In races 1 and 3 this was in the form of Adam Haywood, number 111 in the Amx, although a great second race for Scott Hambridge, number 14 in the Amx, clinched him 3rd for that race.

Best wishes to Josh Wheildon, hoping you have speedy recovery and are back to racing soon.
